01/26/2004: Glacial Day | |
Mood: | |
Taking a bit of a break from stuff... The weather today is crazy, it is snowing like crazy and the wind is strong and violent, and the forecasted snowstorm hasn't even gotten here yet. I taught one class this morning, surprisingly good turnout but still a number of people missing because of the weather. Finished at 10am. After class I found my students taking off their jackets and shirts and jumping into the snowbanks. Crazy college kids ![]()
Now I'm sitting in my office watching the manic snow blast through the air on the frenzy of the wind. It's more than cold outside, it's as if the wind is trying to drive the snowflakes like needles through your clothes to pierce your skin... You draw your limbs close to your body in an effort to shield yourself, but the winter wants to get inside you, it wants to suck up your warmth, assault you with tiny prickles of ice that chill right through you, freeze your blood and your guts so you can feel nothing but the cold. Sometimes this seems like a blissful place. Sometimes you just want to hang on to whatever you have left, keep it all inside and not let anyone else get at it... keep your arms tucked in and walk against the icy spikes trying to get into you. They will only harden and freeze you.
